- FENDERING
The port is equipped with eighteen 20ft long
compression catamarans and four 2.3 metre diameter Yokohama type fenders to assist with
berthing at one of Portland Port's alongside berths. Most of the alongside berths are
fitted with Greenheart timber fenders in addition to the floating fenders.
- MOORING AND UNMOORING
Portland Harbour Services
Limited provides properly trained and equipped mooring gangs for all mooring and unmooring
operations at the alongside berths, and to assist with any maritime securing or transfer
work required for vessels at an anchorage.
- PROVISION OF LIQUID WASTE REMOVAL
The Port is equipped with two 6,000 cubic
metre capacity tanks for the reception and treatment of liquid waste from vessels. All
alongside berths are connected to the tanks and the MARPOL facility is operated in
conjunction with KD Offshore Ltd.
- CRANAGE
The Port is equipped with two 6 tonne and one 15
tonne railmounted travelling dockside cranes and one 50 tonne fixed dockside heavy lift
crane.These cranes are available
with various lifting attachments to transfer machinery, stores, heavy lifts and cargo to
and from vessels at the alongside berths. The Port also has a range of mobile cranage
available from 3 tonnes safe working load to 200 tonnes safe working load to supplement
the cranage at the alongside berths.

ACCOMMODATION
The Port is equipped with a range of
ambient, cool and cold covered storage facilities.
- PROVISION OF FRESH WATER
All alongside berths are able to deliver
fresh water to vessels via the dock infrastructure at the rate of 50 cubic metres per
hour.
- PROVISION OF MARINE BUNKERS
All alongside berths are equipped with a
Marine Diesel ( Gas Oil ) bunkering pipeline system. The Port provides a handling and
storage facility for CONOCO (UK) Ltd. To deliver Marine Gas Oil to vessels via tank
storage at alongside berths.
- LAND FOR OPEN AND COVERED STORAGE
Portland Port's Harbour premises cover a land
area of some 350 acres, which are within two miles of the alongside berths.
- VESSEL GANGWAYS AND ACCESS TO
VESSELS
The Port is equipped with a number of fixed
and covered gangways and associated safety nets.
- PROVISION OF DRY WASTE REMOVAL
A full range of open or covered dry skips are
available at the alongside berths.
- SECURITY SERVICES
The Port is guarded 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week. The Port has its own force of Special Constables whose are of
jurisdiction covers the whole of the Harbour and the Harbour Premises.
As a former Naval Base, the Port activities, when undertaken, are considered to be a very
secure environment when compared to most existing commercial ports.
