- PILOTAGE
Portland Port's Marine Department can provide
pilotage 24 hours a day, seven days a weeks to all vessels from the pilotage station to,
or from, all anchorages and berths. All pilots are employees of the Statutory Harbour
Authority. The vessel 'Rodwell' is a Nelson 40 Class, fully certified pilot vessel
capable of 18 knots in up to Force 7 sea conditions.
- VESSEL INFORMATION SERVICE
The vessel Information Service
co-ordinates all Portland Port's Marine Services 24 hours a day, seven days a week,
providing vessel information services to regulate and control all vessel movements to
berths and anchorages within the Inner and Outer Harbours.The Vessel Information
Service also acts as a Marine Emergency Control Centre for Portland Port's Emergency Plan
and Spill Contingency Plan. PPL's Harbourmaster liases with HM Coastguard, local and
regional authorities for all marine emergencies in the immediate sea area.
MOORING
Portland Harbour Services Limited is equipped
with the 3 tonne bollard pull workboats 'Chiswell' and 'Southwell' to perform rope
running, fender positioning and all other berthing and mooring services. They can be
supplemented by a range of other workboats and ancillary craft in the Harbour if
necessary.

- TOWAGE
The Port is equipped
with two primary towage units within Portland Harbour, available 24 hours a day, seven
days a weeks, - the 30 tonne bollard pull tug 'Sandsfoot Castle' and the 18 tonne
bollard pull tug 'Rufus Castle'. These tugs have firefighting and other emergency
service capability and are operated under licence to the Statutory Harbour Authority by
Portland Towage Limited. Both tugs are fully equipped and insured to perform coastal
towage operations if required.Portland Towage Limited has the ability to obtain
additional towage units for towage operations at Portland Port if required at short
notice.
- HARBOUR PATROL & WATER RESCUE
Portland Harbour Services Limited is equipped
with the 20ft RIB 'Fortuneswell' capable of speeds up to 20 knots for fast response
and shallow water rescue capability, which can operate effectively in weather conditions
up to Force 4. In more inclement weather the Harbour patrol craft 'Rodwell' is
used.
