Services at the Berths


All the berths are well provided with power and dry refuse collection facilities, and are also equipped with a full range of ship facilities e.g. fresh water, bunkers and liquid waste reception. Each of the main berths is equipped with 4 separate liquid bulk pipelines, linked to the very extensive surface and underground tank storage system. The storage tanks are fully equipped with road delivery/receipt equipment, and the total storage capacity is in excess of 200,000m3.

The Port is equipped with the following rail mounted craneage:1 x 50 tonne SWL at the Inner Breakwater Berth

1 x 15 tonne SWL at Outer Coaling Pier

1 x 6 tonne SWL at Deep Water Berth

1 x 3 tonne SWL at MPI Services (UK) Ltd

In addition to the rail mounted cranes above the Port has 2 x 3 tonne mobile cranes,, and mobile craneage up to 300 tonnes capacity can be obtained through the Ports dry cargo stevedore, Berkeley Handling Ltd. Berkeley Handling will also supply a full range of fork lift trucks from 1.5 tonne to 42 tonnes SWL, and a bulk loading elevator of 350 tonnes per hour capacity.

The Port also has 2 x 850 tonne slipways, operated by MPI Services (UK) Ltd, for vessel repair and refurbishment.

The Port is equipped with one 30 tonne Bollard Pull Tug and one 18 tonne

Bollard Pull Tug which are available 24 hours a day 365 days a year. The

Towage Service is provided by Portland Towage Ltd and the Port has the ability

to supplement the Harbour tugs with other towage appliances as required.

The Pilotage service and all Marine Services, except Towage, are provided directly by Portland Port Limited.
