Port Activity 6 February 2002

Apart from the Dea Hunter sailing at around midnight last Friday the weekend activity in the port was quiet. Repair work continued on the Santa Rosa, which took longer than expected, and her sailing was further delayed by the severe gale force winds on Monday, however, at 0800 on Tuesday with the two port tugs in attendance the Santa Rosa finally departed the port for Receife.

A new arrival to the port was the Danish cable vessel Lodbrog who arrived early enough on Monday morning to beat the deteriorating weather. Originally an East German RoRo ferry she has completed a conversion in Gdansk, Poland taking just over one year. Having loaded some cable in Dunkerque the vessel was conducting trials of machinery and equipment in Lyme Bay when a small problem necessitated an alongside berth. The Lodbrog sailed on Wednesday afternoon to complete trials and once these are completed she will sail for the Caribbean to relieve the Maersk Defender who is scheduled to return to the Portland area. This will enable the Monarch to depart for work in the Far East during March.

The Agile having completed work to remove all cable gear departed the berth to anchor on Wednesday. She is expected to depart for Canada during next week.

The RFA Sir Bedivere was anchored in the inner harbour Tuesday and Wednesday carrying out military operations.

There are no vessels expected over the weekend.

Warships and RFA's in the area or at anchor in the port during the week have been HMS Ark Royal, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Grafton, Sutherland, Richmond, Ocean and RFA Sir Bedivere.
